SLC and Southern Green Ltd. are delighted to announce their strategic partnership, working together to explore the potential for leisure and recreational sites.

Southern Green is an award winning firm of landscape architects, urban designers and masterplanners who are passionate about delivering enduring, innovative and inspirational places. Since its establishment in 1998, Southern Green has developed expertise in a wide range of different sectors, but specialise particularly in historic landscape restoration, urban regeneration, sport and leisure, landscape and visual assessment and masterplanning.

Southern Green has built up considerable expertise in park restoration and leisure projects and work on projects across the country. They are proud to have raised over £50m in funding from the HLF and other sources and have delivered in the region of £100m of park projects, from recreational grounds to Grade 1 Registered landscapes. Sometimes these projects require fundamental changes to park layouts, in others, a more sensitive approach is required. The common objective of these projects is to transform sites so that they can offer attractions for today’s diverse and demanding society, achieving increased use and visitor satisfaction, whilst working with clients to draw up management and maintenance procedures to ensure that the sites have a sustainable future.

Southern Green Ltd has recently supported SLC in the development of feasibility and masterplanning projects in Barnet and Watford. Their complimentary skills ensure that SLC can provide their clients with market leading masterplanning support integrated with SLC’s feasibility expertise.

Simon Green, Director at Southern Green commented, ‘Despite 20 years of park renaissance, we have now entered an era of local authorities slashing park budgets and putting the long-term future of these precious spaces under threat. Innovative new ways of designing, managing and maintaining parks, through the development of trusts and new partnerships are urgently being taken forward to address these issues. Against this background, we believe that our expertise in park masterplanning and management combined with SLC’s commercial and feasibility expertise is a winning combination for clients and organisations, providing them with coordinated strategies and masterplans for their parks and recreational assets. We very much look forward to tackling these pressing issues with SLC and see these challenges as opportunities to transform and repurpose our parks to give them exciting and sustainable long-term futures.’

Toby Kingsbury, Director of SLC commented, ‘Having worked with Southern Green on some high profile and complex masterplanning projects, we’re delighted to be jointly exploring more opportunities to support a greater number of leisure and recreation masterplanning projects with our collective skill set and experience. Having learned a great deal about how to make parks work on ever reducing public subsidy in the UK, New York and New Zealand and through our successful UK track record, SLC can bring a fresh approach and insight to our clients, building on Southern Green’s hugely impressive experience.’
