SLC is proud to see three of our clients launch new leisure and active wellbeing partnerships in West Northamptonshire, Cannock and Wyre!
SLC provided expert advice to each local authority to support their successful procurement exercises.
All of these new partnerships will see major improvements to local sports, leisure and active wellbeing facilities, increased delivery in community settings, targeted interventions to help reduce local health inequalities, and a stronger role for physical activity in supporting overall health and wellbeing.
West Northamptonshire Council has begun a new 10‑year contract with Everyone Active to manage six of its leisure facilities, backed by £5.6 million in capital investment. The new partnership is designed to support the delivery of the Council’s new Active Lives Strategy 2025–30 and includes an expanded Active Communities Programme, enhanced concession schemes for vulnerable groups such as carers and care‑experienced young people, and £675k of targeted investment to reduce carbon emissions. These benefits are complemented by an improved management fee for the Council, demonstrating that new partnerships can generate significant savings even where the scope of services is extended.
Wyre Council’s new 15‑year contract with Parkwood Leisure for its portfolio of five leisure facilities will support the delivery of the Council’s Wyre Moving More Strategy 2023-2028. The new contract includes £3.7m in capital investment and has secured a significantly improved management fee of £8.3m across the contract term. It also introduces a new Active Wellbeing programme of specialist activities for those new to exercise, recovering from injury or living with more complex health conditions.
And finally, Cannock Chase District Council has today begun a new 10‑year contract with Everyone Active to manage the delivery of the Council’s sport, leisure and wellbeing portfolio of two leisure centres, a golf course and a 3G pitch and pavilion. The new agreement will deliver a significantly improved financial outcome for the Council and includes major facility upgrades, an enhanced Exercise on Referral offer through improvements to establish a new clinical‑grade Health & Wellbeing Gym at Chase Leisure Centre, and a new concessionary scheme offer to improve accessibility for a number of key priority groups including children in care, care‑experienced young people and those living locally with Parkinson’s.
Together, these procurements reflect SLC’s commitment to supporting local authorities to secure high‑quality and sustainable futures for their leisure and active wellbeing services through robust strategic planning and an unwavering focus on delivering strong community outcomes.
The launch of these partnerships marks an important step forward in the delivery of modern, community-focused services that enable residents to lead healthier, more active lives.
