We have a proud heritage of advocating and enabling learning through knowledge sharing, so we take every opportunity to connect clients with peers and industry experts. Our Think Tanks have developed a strong reputation as a leading knowledge sharing platform for local authority client officers and commissioners and in 2020/21, we hosted over 120 local authorities.
Think Tanks
SLC has developed a sector-leading facilitated Think Tank format available virtually or in person. Typically, we select a live sector issue – for example: sector recovery, management options or wider sector collaboration – and invite local authority client officers, commissioners and other relevant stakeholders to join us. We share insights and challenges, review case studies and explore how this can be applied locally to your organisation or place. SLC provide expert facilitation to steer productive and positive discussions for all delegates.
The environment is confidential, supportive and focused on attendees’ professional needs.
Who should attend?
SLC Think Tanks are primarily aimed at public service senior officers and their elected Members with strategic responsibility for leisure, health and cultural services. Think Tanks are free to attend.
Why invest time in attending a SLC Think Tank?
What is unique about SLC’s approach is that you are the key contributor, supported by input from sector-leading experts and your own peers. This creates a rich learning environment, building confidence and new support networks among attendees.

“I’ve attended a number of SLC Think Tank events over the course of the last five years or so, including when not actively engaged with SLC. I’ve found the sessions topical and really useful; especially from sector insight, peer to peer discussion, and networking perspectives.”
“The SLC think tanks provide a great opportunity to learn and share experiences with peers across the country. The insights and connections are invaluable, and serve to provoke thought and develop practice too. You will meet with industry experts and be part of an inspiring community of colleagues.”
“I thought the content was well-presented and networking opportunities were excellent. I learnt a lot. I really enjoyed the break-out sessions and the opportunity to learn what was going on and share ideas from other projects.”
