SLC have forged a partnership with BSSECone of the UK’s leading Energy Consultancies.

BSSEC have worked with over 600 clients over the past 10 years and can assist you in identifying how much more efficient your assets can become linked to invest to save opportunities. Together with BSECC, we are supporting clients and their operators to optimise and minimise energy costs and C02 emissions in line with the latest legislation.

BSSEC believe that the combination of training your operating partners to use good processes and utilising smart technology delivers excellent results – often for a relatively low investment. BSSEC are able to audit your facilities and identify the huge potential for improvements in savings and C02 that typically are available in sport, leisure and cultural assets. Larger savings of up to 30% can regularly be achieved with some investment, for example in new lighting, improved building management technology and heat saving schemes (for example swimming pools).

Working with BSSEC we can design, manage and implement all aspects of your businesses energy efficiency plan, or fit in where you need us.

BSSEC Leisure and Culture clients include:

  • Nuffield Health
  • Tate Modern
  • St Andrew’s Golf Club
  • The Ricoh Arena
  • Durham County Council (see case study below).

Case Study:

BSSEC were recently commissioned by Durham County Council to undertake a comprehensive energy review to its leisure portfolio consisting of 18 leisure centres, 1 golf club, 2 school swimming pools and an indoor bowling club.

The council wanted to explore if a 40% carbon and energy saving could be made across its sites at the same time as reviewing the condition and energy performance ratings of all M&E systems. The scope of the review was to include staff practices, management systems, technology energy savings, building fabric upgrades and renewable energy including low and zero carbon technologies and also consider compliant funding options to the Salix loans finance scheme.

A detailed energy audit report was prepared for each site providing detailing energy profiles, energy benchmarking, an energy management assessment and detailed invest to save recommendations including supporting calculations.

Gaining a full understanding of the client Leisure portfolio, BSSEC were able to identify 180 energy saving measures across the 22 sites of which 85 were Salix finance compliant. Potential savings identified were 47% Carbon reduction, £920k.pa energy saving with a 6.5 year payback. Other benefits include reduced maintenance spend, income from Renewable Heat Incentives and feed in tariffs.
