Clients

SLC has had the privilege to work with over a hundred clients since 2009. They often share a common set of values with us based on wanting the best possible outcome for their project, a critical friend based relationship and value for money.

Warwick District Council – Feasibility and Masterplanning

“Throughout the project SLC provided high quality support and advice to the Council. They have been able to respond to an evolving context and maintained excellent communication throughout. This has enabled a wide-ranging and high profile project to positively engage with a number of stakeholders and build a sound evidence base for future decision making.”

Guy Collier, Projects Officer

Warwick District Council

Watford Borough Council – Woodside Playing Fields Masterplan

“SLC and their team of architects and landscape architects adopted a very thorough and robust approach to the project which has resulted in an exciting masterplan for Woodside Playing Fields. The facility developments were based upon a comprehensive needs analysis, supported by stakeholder consultation and backed up by detailed costings and business plans which provided us with confidence to take the project forward. The masterplan has subsequently been approved by Cabinet and we have now engaged SLC to undertake wider public engagement on the proposals. Toby and the team are great to work with, extremely professional and delivered consistently high quality outputs at every stage.”

Bristol City Council – Facilities Review

“SLC have undertaken an extensive piece of pre-procurement work as part of a planned tender exercise of the Council’s main leisure management contract. Including options appraisals, supply and demand analysis, feasibility work and identifying facility investment opportunities, their knowledge and expertise has been invaluable. SLC cover a broad range of disciplines and bring with them extensive experience. Always open to a challenge, they bring fresh ideas, deliver on time and have been a pleasure to work with.”

“SLC provided initial procurement project insight as part of our wider review of our sports strategy and enabled us to gain sign off from our Trustees to progress with the partnering of our Sports provision. The additional procurement work performed by SLC to assist us in procuring our operating partner was instrumental and has helped to shape the future of our Sports under the Westway. Overall, we are very grateful for the advice and continued support and look forward to working with SLC again in the future.”

Stephen Wren, Director

Worcester City Council – Procurement of a Leisure Operator

“Dear Duncan – you will be aware that on Tuesday 15 September the city council’s cabinet endorsed the recommendation contained in the tender evaluation report you prepared in conjunction with Turner & Townsend to confirm the appointment of Freedom Leisure as our new leisure operator. The cabinet were extremely pleased with the outcome of the procurement exercise, and Officers and I want to record our appreciation of the hard work of David Rushton and the rest of your team in helping to achieve such an excellent outcome. We fully understand the amount of detail that went into this work, and appreciate the flexibility in approach and understanding of the intrinsic linkages that you showed in agreeing to work with Turner & Townsend on this project to ensure that the associated capital programme optimised the commercial opportunities.”

Sheena Ramsey, Managing Director
Worcester City Council

Oxford Spires Academy – Procurement of a Leisure Operator

Slough Borough Council – Leisure Strategy

“We commissioned SLC in the latter part of 2014 to undertake a supply-and-demand assessment for the replacement of our major wet/dry leisure centre in Slough, along with recommendations on future facility mix to meet the needs of Slough’s residents, who historically have low levels of participation in sport and physical activity.

Duncan and his team were always very professional in their approach and thorough in their research, with a wealth of knowledge and skills. Duncan can be relied upon to communicate effectively with range of audiences, including senior officers from the council, local councilors, commissioners and key stakeholders. He has the ability to challenge people’s views and perceptions and get buy-in to ideas going forward. He is always able to back up his recommendations with hard facts and figures.

I have also had the pleasure of working with Duncan on a number of other areas and projects over the last few years and continue to be impressed by his enthusiasm and ability to deliver the very best quality work, even when we have been challenging with our timescales and scope of work. He is great fun to work with and I would have no hesitation in recommending SLC to others in the leisure industry.”

Alison Hibbert, Head of Creative Delivery
Slough Borough Council

Suffolk County Council – Disability Sport and Physical Activity Strategy

“SLC were engaged to co-ordinate the development and production of a disability sport and physical activity strategy for Suffolk. They were chosen ahead of a number of tenderers for their experience and quality of their tender submission. From the outset SLC were thorough, organised and professional in their approach, bringing together a range of stakeholders to contribute to the process. This has led to the production of a robust strategy and action plan. I would be happy to recommend SLC for future work of this nature.”

Adam Baker, Most Active County Project Manager
Suffolk County Council
